Cartography as a
Way of Seeing
El Camino Maps was founded on a simple but profound belief: that maps are not merely tools of navigation, but among the most powerful artifacts of human civilization — windows into how we understand, imagine, and inhabit the world.

Born from a Love of Maps
El Camino Maps was founded in San Francisco in 2009 by Elena Vasquez, a geographer who had spent a decade producing maps for the National Geographic Society. Frustrated by the gap between the precision of modern GIS technology and the beauty of historical cartographic art, she set out to bridge the two.
Starting with a small studio and a single large-format printer, Elena began producing museum-quality reproductions of historical maps alongside original contemporary cartographic art. Word spread quickly among collectors, interior designers, and geography enthusiasts.
Today, El Camino Maps employs a team of geographers, artists, and GIS specialists who share a common passion: making the world more beautiful, one map at a time.
To make the world's geography beautiful, accessible, and meaningful
We believe that every person deserves to have a beautiful map on their wall — one that inspires curiosity, sparks conversation, and deepens their connection to the places that matter to them. We are committed to the highest standards of cartographic accuracy, artistic quality, and environmental responsibility in everything we produce.
Our Values
Accuracy Above All
Every map we produce is meticulously researched and verified against authoritative geographic sources.
Artisanal Craft
We treat cartography as fine art — each piece is designed with the same care as a museum-quality print.
Global Perspective
We celebrate the beauty of every corner of the world, from remote mountain ranges to vibrant city streets.
Passion for Place
We believe that understanding where we are helps us understand who we are. Maps are windows into human experience.
